NADINE MENENDEZ, WIFE OF FORMER SEN. BOB MENENDEZ, CONVICTED IN BRIBERY SCHEME
Nadine Menendez, wife of former Sen. Bob Menendez, was convicted Monday of conspiring with her husband to accept bribes — including cash, gold bars, and a luxury car — from three New Jersey businessmen seeking political favors.
A Manhattan jury found her guilty on all counts, mirroring a previous jury’s verdict against Bob Menendez, who is set to begin serving an 11-year sentence in June. Nadine is scheduled to be sentenced on June 12, six days after her husband reports to prison.
Prosecutors described the couple as “partners in crime,” tracing the scheme back to early 2018, when their relationship began. Evidence presented included $480,000 in cash, gold bars worth $150,000, and a Mercedes-Benz convertible found during a 2022 FBI raid on their Englewood Cliffs, NJ, home.
Though both deny wrongdoing, prosecutors argued Nadine began facilitating bribes soon after they started dating — including help from Wael Hana, who provided cash to save her home from foreclosure. In exchange, Bob Menendez allegedly aided Hana’s business interests with Egypt.
Nadine also received a Mercedes from businessman Jose Uribe after her previous car was totaled in a fatal crash. Prosecutors said Bob Menendez then tried to influence a state investigation involving Uribe’s associates.
Originally scheduled to be tried together, Nadine’s case was delayed due to breast cancer treatment. Bob Menendez, 71, resigned from the Senate in August 2024 after his conviction.
