
MAN KILLED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY NJ TRANSIT TRAIN EARLY TUESDAY MORNING
NJ Transit officials are investigating a fatal incident early Tuesday morning in which a man was struck and killed by a train on the Raritan Valley Line.
The collision occurred around 1:44 a.m., when Train 5403 hit an adult male trespasser on the tracks just east of Cranford Station, according to NJ Transit Police. The train had left Newark Penn Station at 1:28 a.m. and was en route to Raritan, scheduled to arrive at 2:34 a.m. It was the final scheduled trip of the night.
Roughly 25 passengers and crew members were on board at the time. No injuries were reported, and travelers were later transferred to a bus to complete their journey.
The man’s identity has not been released. Authorities have not yet determined why he was on the tracks. NJ Transit Police are leading the investigation.
