Gunfire was reported in Newark’s South Ward on Saturday afternoon, damaging a parked vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Police were alerted around 3:30 p.m. after a ShotSpotter system detected gunfire in the 80s block of Custer Avenue. When officers arrived, they found multiple shell casings in the area.

Police searched the surrounding neighborhood but did not locate any victims. Authorities later confirmed that a parked vehicle had been struck by gunfire. Residents told officers that no one was inside the vehicle at the time.

The suspect fled before police arrived. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
